Saskatoon massage therapist accused of sexual assaults to get bail

Saskatoon massage therapist charged with multiple counts of sexual assault was in provincial court Thursday for a bail hearing.

Mark Donlevy was first charged with two counts of sexual assault in November 2016, stemming from incidents where he was alleged to have touched clients inappropriately.

He was out on bail on those charges last week when police announced they were adding seven more charges after hearing from more alleged victims.

All those charges are based on allegations of incidents that happened between 2003 and 2013.

Court dockets posted on Thursday showed Donlevy facing a total of 11 charges of sexual assault.

The Crown did not oppose Donlevy’s release ahead of the trial.

He was let out of custody on $500 bail with conditions including he does not advertise or work as a massage therapist until his charges are resolved, and he has no contact with any of his accusers.

George Green, Donlevy’s defense lawyer, spoke to reporters outside the courthouse after the hearing.

He noted his client hadn’t had any problems abiding by his bail conditions in the four months he was out of custody after his initial arrest.

“(I’m) pleased to have him released. He’ll be obeying his release conditions just like he was before,” he said

Green said he took no issue with Donlevy not being allowed to work pending a trial.

“It certainly has some effect, but it’s not a condition we disagree with in the circumstances,” he said.

Donlevy will be back in court April 18.
