Scarborough Police officer fires gun during altercation with driver

The officer received a minor injury during the arrest and was taken to hospital.

A man has been charged with impaired driving after a traffic stop in Scarborough Wednesday morning during which a Toronto police officer fired her gun.

Const. Craig Brister said the officer stopped a vehicle on Adanac Dr., in the Eglinton Ave. E. and McCowan Rd. area, at 10:39 a.m.

The officer and the male driver were involved in an altercation, and the driver fled.

The officer fired her gun and the driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested and charged with impaired driving.

Brister said the officer received a minor injury during the arrest and was taken to hospital.

The driver was not injured.

Eglinton Ave E. was closed at Mason Rd. for several hours as police investigated.
